Design and Functionality
The Breitling Superocean reference 2005 functions as a dedicated dive and yachting instrument. It is commonly referred to as the 'Slow Chronograph' due to its specialized chronograph movement, which records elapsed time using the central hand to track minutes rather than seconds. This slow-moving hand is designed to be read against the bezel and dial scales.
To address the difficulty in discerning whether the slow-moving chronograph mechanism is active, Breitling integrated a running indicator located directly above the six o'clock position. This feature allows the user to confirm the engagement of the time-measuring function at a glance, distinguishing this model from traditional chronograph configurations of the period.
