F. L. Meybom

Partially verified

Maker of catalogued square pre-balance spring watch, square watch

Life & work

F. L. Meybom worked as a watchmaker in Paris during the seventeenth century.

He operated his workshop within the privileged enclave of the Abbey of Saint Germain-des-Prés, which allowed him to avoid the jurisdiction of the Parisian guild of master clockmakers. The watchmaker's movements were signature-marked on the back plate, often including the location of the workshop. Extant records concerning the maker are otherwise nonexistent, as his personal history remains entirely obscure.
