Historical significance

  • The carved wooden clock case is painted and gilded. The bracket rests on the shoulders of a Triton, represented here by the bust of a man with a double fish tail.
  • The white enamel dial with Arabic numerals has two steel hands.
  • The movement, which only has a 24-hour power reserve, is fitted with a recoil escapement and an hour and half-hour rack striking-work.
  • Inside the clock base is a set of eighteen pewter organ pipes playing nine tunes. It is activated every hour by the clock.
