Historical significance

  • The back of the gilded brass case is engraved and pierced with a rosette of interlacing and arabesques.
  • The dial, which is also gilded brass, has two hour-chapter rings: one engraved in Roman numerals from I to XII, the other in Arabic numerals from 13 to 24, with characteristic Z-shaped 2’s. The striking mechanism can be re-set through an opening at 9 o'clock. The pendant and bezel were modified later.
  • The movement, made of iron, except for a few of the train wheels, features a striking mechanism that strikes the hours. It has a verge escapement, a straight foliot, a hog's bristle regulator and a stackfreed. The strike locking-plate is engraved with numbers from 1 to 12, indicating the number of hours that have been struck.
