Historical significance

  • The medallion in the centre of the silver case-back is engraved with musical instruments. Around the circumference, four cartouches with various animals alternate with pierced decorations engraved with scrolls.
  • The white enamel dial is painted with black Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes. In the centre, a gilt brass alarm dial. The hour and minute hands are blued steel.
  • The alarm movement, with chain fusee and verge escapement signed: Gosselin in Paris, has a gilded brass balance cock, pierced and engraved with acanthus leaves and two perched birds.
