Historical significance

  • The case is polished silver. The bottom half of the dial is decorated with an oval medallion with a portrait painted on enamel of a man in armour, surrounded by instruments of war engraved in gilded brass.
  • The hours and minutes are indicated in a round aperture which traverses a semi-circular sector. The 0 to 60 minutes are engraved on an outer chapter and the quarter hours are shown on an inner chapter engraved from 0 to 4.
  • As the current hour disappears on the right, the next hour appears on the left.
  • The movement has a fusee with chain, a verge escapement. A large, pierced, single-footed balance cock in gilded brass covers the balance.
