One of the defining Connecticut clock factories, Seth Thomas produced enormous numbers of shelf and wall clocks for the domestic and export market, together with marine movements and, for a period, pocket watches.
Seth Thomas founded his clockmaking business in 1813 in Plymouth Hollow, Connecticut, before incorporating the firm under the Seth Thomas Clock Company name in 1853. After the death of the founder, the company was managed by his son, Aaron, who introduced numerous improvements and styles to the product line. Following an acquisition by Talley Industries and a subsequent period of ownership by the Colibri Group, the firm ceased operations in 2009. The brand was later revived under the ownership of CST Enterprises, which now sells clocks manufactured by other builders under the Seth Thomas name.
