Verge crown wheel
The escape wheel of a verge escapement, with teeth cut axially like a crown.
Explanation
The crown wheel of a verge escapement has its teeth cut axially, standing up like the points of a crown, and acts on the two pallets of the vertical verge staff. It is the defining wheel of the escapement used in virtually all watches before about 1800. Worn crown wheel teeth are a common reason verge watches run badly.
