Case and Dial Design
The clock is designed in the French Empire style, characterized by the use of gilt bronze, or ormolu. The primary structural housing for the timekeeping mechanism is a square box, which serves as a foundation for the upper decorative elements. A porcelain dial is set into the front of this box, displaying a Roman numeral chapter ring.
The figural composition is placed atop and alongside the main housing. To the left stands a figure, while the top of the clock is adorned with a lyre element and small scholarly items. The rectangular base provides horizontal stability and is enriched with cast relief work, featuring a floral basket as the central focus. The entire object is raised on small feet, lifting the composition from the surface.
