Life & work

Jean-Joseph de Saint-Germain was a prominent Parisian bronze-caster who became a master craftsman in July 1748.

He operated his business in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine area, specifically on the rue de Charenton and later on the rue Saint-Nicolas. The maker cultivated a significant professional network, collaborating with nearly seventy Parisian and provincial clockmakers, including Michel Stollenwerck and Ferdinand Berthoud. His workshop production was extensive, encompassing decorative bronze furniture mounts as well as complex clock cases featuring animal and neoclassical themes.
