École d'horlogerie de Genève

Partially verified

Vocational instruction in horology and micromechanics

History

The school was formally inaugurated on October 13, 1824, by the industrial class of the Société des Arts de Genève to provide structured horological training.

Initial training focused on the École de Blanc, which taught the production of rough watch movements to students who previously had to seek apprenticeships elsewhere. The curriculum later expanded to include an École de Finissage to teach the specialized discipline of finishing and refining movements to commercial standards. Throughout its existence, the institution has played a significant role in developing the inspection criteria for the Geneva Seal.
