Bracket Alarm Clocks

Background
Bracket clocks originated as a style of antique portable table clock in the 17th and 18th centuries. The term originally referred to small weight-driven pendulum clocks that required a wall-mounted bracket for the hanging weights. As spring-driven mechanisms were developed, they no longer required hanging weights, though the portable bracket style persisted.
These clocks are typically constructed of wood, including ebony, and are often ornamented with ormolu mounts, brass inlay, or decorative veneers. Because they were relatively expensive and not present in every room, these clocks were designed with handles to facilitate transport between rooms.

- Bracket clocks often consist of two matching pieces: the clock itself and a decorative shelf.
